Choo Hoey

Choo Hoey is a Singaporean musician and conductor. A Chinese, his father, Choo Seng, was an immigrant from Chaozhou and his mother from Nanjing.

Choo Hoey's family immigrated to Singapore in 1946. He is an alumnus of The Chinese High School. In 1958, Choo debuted his career with the Belgian National Orchestra. He has appeared with many famous European orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra, the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the Orchestre de la Société du Conservatoire, Tonhalle Zurich, Oslo Philharmonic and the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande.

From 1979 to 1996, Choo Hoey was the Music Director of the Singapore Symphony Orchestra, a premier Asian orchestra, and has continued to appear in Europe as a guest conductor. He is currently Conductor Emeritus. He has conducted orchestras like the Hong Kong Philharmonic and China Philharmonic in Beijing. Soloists who have worked with Choo include Li Chuan Yun, Lynnette Seah, , Kiho Ishikawa, Kun Woo Paik, just to name a few.

Choo is married to Alexandra, a Greek archaeologist. They had two sons.
